Growing up in NYC amidst the vibrant cultural scene of the 70s and 80s, I was surrounded by diverse cultures, stories, and the American way of life. The thriving, organic sensory of NYC enriched my adolescence. Oddly, within this urban-scape I discovered the iconic black and white images of Ansel Adams. These nature images afforded me a color unlike New York, and a window into photography.
Many years later as I grew into the banking profession, my photography evolved as the financial crisis unfolded. Drawing inspiration from Daido Moriyama’s embrace of imperfection and spontaneity, tuned my photography toward the immediacy of the scene. The evocative titles of my works, "Occupy" and "They Will Never Kill Us All," are narratives of resilience not afforded, and the coexistence of clashing mindsets. The black and white version of the "Occupy" image borrowed from the eye of Moriyama as well as the image of the banker in "They Will Never Kill Us All" series. My images were exhibited, juried by Guggenheim curators, and renowned photographers Stephen Shore and Harvey Stein.
“American Woman,” from my 2018 collection, urged a narrative where the concept preempted the work, re-imagining a playful object into a symbol of tension - a needed diversion.
